Madoka Nakamaru is one of the most internationally acclaimed Japanese violinistsof her generation, captivating colleagues and audiences around the world with her delicacy, boldness and acute grasp of beauty in all styles. After graduating Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music with a Master’s degree in modern and baroque violin with high distinction, her deep interest for baroque music led her to Belgium to study baroque violin with Sigiswald Kuijken at the Brussels Royal Conservatory where she obtained a Master’s in Baroque Violin in 2009. Beginning the violin at the age of 3, she was immediately captivated by the magic quality of the instrument and was a regular figure on stage from an early age, in chamber music recitals with her sister at the piano and other musical colleagues with whom she explored the vast violin repertoire from the 16th to the 20th centuries. She already showed her talent as a young violinist by winning the Kanagwa competition at age 16 and later performed Mendelssohn’s violin concerto in 2005 with the Leipzig Chamber Orchestra in Japan to high acclaim. Among countless violin solo recitals that she has played, her solo violin tour in Belgium and Japan in 2016 was highlighted for its originality and dazzling virtuosity. In 2018 she published a CD “Sechs Sonaten für Violine und obligates Cembalo” with Wouter Dekoninck under the label Organroxx. She is currently a member of numerous musical ensembles, and often appears as concert master for live performances as well as radio, CD and TV recordings throughout Europe and Japan. Since 2014 she has been concertmaster of the Hildebrandt Consort, with whom she successfully led a new work by Wouter Dekoninck, “Grosse Messe 1739 für Bach und Luther”, for the Thüringer Bachwochen,which was broadcast by the German radio MDR-Kultur and enjoyed successive performances in Belgium and France. She has played under the baton of acclaimed conductors such as René Jacobs, Sigiswald Kuijken, Masaaki Suzuki, Hidemi Suzuki,Hervé Niquet, Leonardo García Alarcón, Erik Van Nevel, and Peter Van Heyghen, in such groups as B’rock, Currende, Il Gardelino,Bach Collegium Japan, Orchestra Libera Classica,the Flemish Radio Choir, Les Muffatti, Bach Plus among others. Madoka Nakamaru is also a devoted teacher. In 2016 she gave a Masterclass and lecture on the history of the violin at Conservatoire de Béthune, France. Her humanitarian teaching style, which merges technical prowess with shared experience and knowledge, has attracted students of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.
